Martina Rüping – Soprano

The german soprano has won first prizes at several international singing competitions, such as the International Coloratura Singing Competition in Stuttgart. She is also the first prizewinner of the German Music Council.

Martina Rüping has participated in numerous CD productions. The first recording of the operetta The Polish wedding with Martina Rüping in the role of Jadja under the direction of Ulf Schirmer was awarded 3 gold medals at the GOLDEN GLOBAL MUSIC AWARDS last year.
Martina Rüping also took part in Der Zwerg (EMI), Die Gezeichneten (DECCA), Das Christelflein (BR), Parsifal (Challenge Records) and Das Christelflein (JPC).

After permanent engagements at the opera houses in Halle and Cologne, Martina Rüping quickly established herself internationally as an interpreter of the great opera roles of G.F. Händel, W. A. Mozart and Richard Strauss.
She sang roles such as Zerbinetta, Queen of the Night, Gilda, Konstanze, Sophie (Rosenkavalier) and others at the State Operas in Munich, Berlin and Stuttgart, in Paris, Rome, Helsinki, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.
She has worked with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano, Marek Janowski, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap van Zweden and directors such as Christoph Schlingensief and Stefan Herheim, Robert Wilson, Achim Freyer, Andreas Homoki and Günter Krämer.

9 years in a row she was a member of the soloist ensemble of the Bayreuth Festival.

The German soprano is a brilliant concert performer in the most important European concert halls.
She has performed in concert halls in Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Munich, Stuttgart and Berlin and at music festivals such as the Handel Festival in Halle and Göttingen, Rheingau Music Festival, Mozartfest Würzburg, MDR Music Summer and others.

In 2017 she sang in the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas Richard Strauss Four Last Songs under Günther Herbig. Soon she will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem in Essen and in the Konzerthaus Berlin G. F. Handel’s Messiah.

Martina Rüping is a regular guest on various radio and television stations, where she participates in numerous recordings and live broadcasts. In the Concertgebouw Amsterdam she has produced for Radio 4 Netherlands the TV production of the opera Flammen by Erwin Schulhoff under Edo de Waart or the Richard Strauss opera Des Esels Schatten under Otto Tausk and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Johannespassion with the Rotterdam Filharmonisch Orkest under Jan Willem de Vriend.
For Deutschlandradio she sang the leading female role in Dvorák’s oratorio Die Geisterbraut.

In addition to her opera and concert activities, Martina Rüping is a sought-after lieder singer.
Her programme with songs by Alma Mahler, with which she performed at the Gergiev Festival Rotterdam and in 2018 Bayreuth, was broadcast live on Radio 4 Netherlands at the Festival Classique in Den Haag.

Martina Rüping teaches singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock as her main artistic subject. Her singing class was awarded the Carte Blanche Prize 2018.
She is a jury member of the International Song Competition “Three centuries of classical romance” in St. Petersburg and regularly gives international master classes, among others for the students of the conservatory “N.A. Rimski-Korsakow in St. Petersburg.
